Shotguns vs AEGs? February 5, 2006

There are some who crave the shotgun appeal and wouldn’t mind going head to head with an AEG-wielding opponent. RenegadeC offers us a glimpse of why shotguns should be your primary weapon of choice. As for me, the shotgun may look scary but with no full auto capability, that’s like bringing a knife to a shootout.

All of Tokyo Marui’s shotgun lineup including their grenade launcher series contain the same mechanism. Its a 3-piston, 3-barreled affair that shoots 3 bbs per charge and shot of the gun. The shotguns have longer barrels and shoot at around 290-310fps. The grenade launchers have lower ratings (250-270fps) due to shorter barrels even though the same thing powers them. For upgrades, some poeple tried changing the spring but I’d highly go against that as the piston shaft and cylinder are made of abs plastic. Modifying them to shoot harder will definitely shorten the life of the gun, otherwise, they last pretty much forever given you don’t dry-fire them too often, if not at all.

Compared to other shotguns of multiple bb affairs, mainly the maruzen m870, the TM shotguns will shoot straighter because all 3 bbs have their individual hop-up chambers. Also, as they are springers, they will be more consistent power wise. The only downside to TM shotguns is the cocking effort. At first, the cocking strain will get your arms tired after only a few shells worth of ammo, but using it often and regular exercise will get you cocking the piece easy. Also, as riding shotgun brings an entirely different gameplay from say using AEGs or gbbs, you will find that you won’t cock and pull your TM shotgun as much as you’ve expected. But if you still insist on blasting tangoes with all your ammo, the TM shotguns have a “slap-fire” mechanism: keeping the trigger depressed as you keep cocking the gun will automatically discharge the weapon on every return of the forergip.
